Abstract

This article presents the results of a systematic review of the factors influencing academic success in Latin American schools. The objective of the research was to "identify the factors of academic success in primary and secondary schools in Latin America" that would allow for the generation of proposals for action or educational policies. To this end, a systematic search was conducted in two bibliographic databases, where search equations and specific inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to narrow down the number of articles and select those that meet the study objective. The results allow us to identify three main categories that influence academic performance: school context, socioeconomic and family factors, and personal and emotional factors. The school context includes aspects such as teaching methods, working conditions and teacher training, institutional infrastructure, and classroom management and organization. Socioeconomic and family factors, on the other hand, encompass parental education, family support, the families' economic situation, and the availability of educational resources at home. Finally, proposals for educational action and/or policies must adopt a holistic approach that considers all these interrelated factors and also considers the specific or contextual realities of each country, to improve academic success.
